Social Impact

As a social enterprise, our primary mission is to help reduce homelessness in the UK through training and employment within speciality coffee.

65% of the profits we generate are reinvested into our barista training programme.

Whether that's assisting our head roaster at our roastery or working in one of our cafes as a barista, we're committed to supporting our trainees from training to employment.

Sustainability

We've made a commitment to plant a tree for every 1kg bag of coffee that we sell, through our partnership with the Eden Reforestation Project.

Whether you are a wholesale customer or simply buying a bag online, you can now enjoy your coffee knowing not only is it responsibly sourced, it is also helping the planet.

Sourcing Quality Coffee

We ensure the coffees we serve are as fresh and seasonal as possible to showcase the wonderful diversity of flavours and aromas found in different coffees around the world.

We also have a strong focus on quality. Higher quality means a better price for the farmer, so it is very important that we continue to work with the producers that consistently supply us with high scoring coffees. This helps them secure a higher price which is often 4 - 5 times higher than the Fairtrade minimum.

GOLDEN HOUR

Here at Old Spike we want to welcome the summer like we never have done before:
showcasing a blend of two species. A Colombian Arabica that represents the best of
this coffee: sweet, mild and balanced, with an Indian Excelsa that represents the future
of coffee with an unexplored species that characterizes it for its tropical flavours and
sweet spiciness.

The Colombian coffee, produced by the growers associated with the Viani Cooperative,
are part of a project called “Crecer” where those producers with more challenging
conditions in their farms, are supported to get more productive crops with initiatives like
their own production of organic fertilizers.

The Indian Coffee, produced in the Mooleh Many farm, is part of an initiative that aims
to find alternatives in the coffee industry that fights climate change. Excelsa coffee is
one of the more than 140 species existent, but surprising for its pleasant flavor and
incredible resilience to the environmental challenge. This lot, curated by our friends in
Mooleh Manay, will surprise with its flavor and unique aftertaste.

HOW TO BREW IT?
Better in Filter and, why not, as an ice coffee. But we want you to enjoy this coffee with
the perfect brew.
Here is our recipe for V60 for one (big) cup of filter coffee (remember to set your timer!):
Take 17 grams of medium ground coffee and set your water temperature at 92C, if you
can. Lower temperatures like this enhance the acidity of the brew.
Allow the coffee to bloom with an initial pour of 30 grams of water. At 40 seconds, add
70 grams more of water. When the timer indicates 1:10 seconds, pour again 70 grams
of water. Finish it at 1:40 with the last 70 grams of water. The total brew time should be
around 2:30 mins. It will be worth it.
Enjoy hot or with ice.
